Engineers Earn Spot on AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Members of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) voted the MIT men's volleyball team to the No. 12 spot in its Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll as announced on Tuesday. This is the ninth year the Engineers have appeared in the preseason rankings and it extends their streak of consecutive weeks in the national poll to 38.

A new member of the United Volleyball Conference, a total of seven team were represented in the poll including: #2 Nazareth College, #4 SUNY New Paltz, #9 Stevens Institute of Technology, #10 NYU, #14 Elmira College, and #15 Medaille College. In addition, MIT will square off with reigning national champion #1 Springfield College and #6 UC Santa Cruz.

The Engineers open the 2014 campaign on Friday, Jan. 17 by hosting Fanshawe College in an exhibition match. Regular-season action will commence on Saturday, Jan. 25 in a tri-match at Emerson College that will feature Newbury College.
