CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - MIT defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 30-28, 30-28, 32-34, 30-27, in the championship match of the first annual MIT Men's Volleyball Invitational on Saturday. Praveen Pamidimukkala and Jordan Wan were selected to the All-Tournament Team while Rob McAndrew was named the Tournament MVP.
The Engineers got things going by sweeping Baruch College, 30-20, 30-24, 30-14, on Friday night. Pamidimukkala tallied a team-high 14 kills and added seven digs while McAndrew totaled 11 kills and two solo and four assisted blocks. Ryan Dean registered a team-high 10 digs while Jordan Wan dished out 36 assists. Jason Park posted four aces while Dean added three.
MIT defeated Bard College, 30-19, 30-26, 25-30, 30-20, in its first match on Saturday. McAndrew reset the Institute record for block assists and total blocks in match by tallying 15. The Engineers also broke the team records in both categories with 34 block assists and 40 total blocks. Offensively, McAndrew led the way with 17 kills while Pamidimukkala finished with 13. Wan and Matthew Ng each collected eight digs as Wan contributed seven block assists and 40 assists.
Dean posted a double-double against Wentworth, tallying 17 kills and 11 digs. Pamidimukkala also totaled 17 kills while McAndrew notched 15. Bob Aspell paced the blocking corps with two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Wan dished out 53 assists while collecting nine digs.
