CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Nationally-ranked No. 10 MIT defeated Emmanuel College, 30-22, 30-27, 30-24, in the championship match of the MIT Men's Volleyball Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers (14-1) earned their second title in the three-year history of the tournament as the Saints collected championship plaudits last year. Scott Pollom received All-Tournament Team honors while Praveen Pamidimukkala was selected as the Tournament MVP.
MIT kicked the weekend off with a 30-18, 30-15, 30-18 win over Mount Ida College. Pamidimukkala tallied 11 kills, nine digs, and two aces while Matthew Ng notched a team-high 10 digs. Philip Rogoz registered 20 assists in two games as Caine Jette finished out the match with 11 assists. Pollom posted eight blocks in two games while Eric Reuland led the way with four aces. Ryan Dean bolstered Tech's defense with seven digs and five blocks.
Pamidimukkala once again posted 11 kills and nine digs, this time in a 30-25, 30-15, 30-20 decision over Bard College. Dean contributed 10 kills, six digs, and five blocks while Michael Demyttenaere totaled eight blocks. Reuland recorded seven kills, four blocks, four digs, and two aces as Rogoz dished out 39 assists.
On Sunday, MIT wrapped up pool play by defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 30-18, 30-24, 30-24. Dean, Pollom, and Demyttenaere each posted four blocks as Pollom notched 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage. Rogoz notched 40 assists, 10 digs, and three aces while Ng paced the Engineers with 11 digs. Pamidimukkala powered the offense with 13 kills.
In the title match against Emmanuel, Dean collected 16 digs and all five of MIT's aces. Pamidimukkala finished with 13 kills and 12 digs as Rogoz tallied 29 assists, 11 digs, and five blocks. Pollom dominated the net with 12 total blocks while Reuland added 10 kills.
