Men's Volleyball Takes Third at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - With a 3-1 record, MIT placed third in the Second Annual MIT Men's Volleyball Invitational this past weekend. For the second year in a row, Praveen Pamidimukkala was selected to the All-Tournament Team. On Friday, the Engineers (10-3) swept Purchase College (30-5, 30-15, 30-13) and Bard College (30-14, 30-17, 30-27). The next day, Tech defeated Philadelphia Biblical University (30-20, 30-20, 35-33) but lost to Division II University of New Haven (30-23, 30-21, 33-35, 30-18).
In just one game, Pamidimukkala posted nine kills against Purchase. Bob Aspell also totaled nine kills and a career-high five aces. Alex Borschow bolstered MIT's offense with six kills and three aces while Eugene Jang notched a team-high eight digs. Jordan Wan and Ryan Dean shared setting duties, finishing with 20 and 11 assists, respectively.
Against Bard, Dean recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 kills and a team-high 11 digs. Pamidimukkala paced the Engineers' attack with 19 kills and added three assisted blocks. Scott Pollom registered five total blocks as Wan contributed 34 assists and two aces.
Borschow had a solid outing versus Philadelphia Biblical as he totaled 10 kills on 13-error free attempts for a .769 hitting percentage. Pamidimukkala and Pollom also reached double-figures in kills with 19 and 14. Dean led Tech with eight digs while Wan dished out 48 assists.
In the final match of the weekend against New Haven, Pamidimukkala tallied 20 kills, eight digs, four assisted blocks, and two aces. Pollom contributed 14 kills and eight total blocks while Matthew Ng chipped in a season-high 13 digs. Dean collected 11 digs as Wan distributed 37 assists.
