CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology topped No. 13 Eastern Mennonite University, 30-16, 30-23, 30-20, in the first round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Friday. With the win, the nationally-ranked No. 6 Ducks improved to 22-6 on the year and will take on either Endicott College or SUNY New Paltz in quarterfinal action on Saturday.
The Royals closed their season with a ledger of 13-16. Tomas Bochicchio led a balanced Stevens’ attack with 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage to go along with six digs, four blocks, and three aces. Andrew Cranford notched nine kills and five aces as Joe Trinsey added eight kills. Doug Reger was a force to be reckoned with at the net as he totaled six blocks while Michael Bertucci registered five digs. Brandt Grobeis capped the match with 30 assists and four blocks.
Cody Kennedy posted 10 kills and two blocks as Kendall Garber added six kills for Eastern Mennonite. John Bottles tacked on seven digs and five kills while Cory Parsons contributed six digs. Nolan Prock dished out 30 assists as Frankie Coto notched four blocks.
