CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 3 Ramapo College recorded a 30-15, 28-30, 30-18, 30-25 victory over No. 14 Elms College in the first round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Friday. With the win, the nationally-ranked No. 8 Roadrunners improved to 24-6 on the year and will take on either host MIT or Vassar College in quarterfinal action on Saturday. The Blazers closed their season with a ledger of 19-13.
Shane Donohue powered Ramapo with 18 kills, a .571 hitting percentage, five blocks, eight digs, and three aces. Tom Kohler compiled 14 kills and a .348 hitting performance as the Roadrunners hit at a clip of .380. Jairo Sierra notched 41 assists and two aces while Kurt Backlund earned a match-high four aces. On the defensive end, Dan Sempkowski led the way with nine digs as TC Elsasser and Colin McNeill recorded seven and three blocks, respectively.
Sequeil Sanchez Velez led Elms with 18 kills and a .394 hitting percentage. Carlos DeLeon-Gomez notched 10 kills as Marc Carrasco collected 14 digs. Ivan Andujar and Jesus Echevarria shared setting duties, finishing with 30 and 13 assists, respectively. Harry Sebastian notched five blocks while Alberto Bravo added four of his own.
