PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On the final day of the Bruno Fall Invitational, that took place at Brown University from Saturday through Sunday, Sept. 14-15, the MIT water polo team fell to Cal Lutheran with a score of 11-8. The Engineers ended the weekend with a record of 1-3, after falling to host Brown and Pacific and winning against Connecticut College. MIT is now 2-5 for the season.
MIT started the game with a lead, ending the first quarter with a score of 3-1. As he has done in a handful of games so far this season, sophomore Kale Rogers (Newberg, Ore.) scored the first goal of the game just a minute in. This was followed by goals by freshman Patrick Everett (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and sophomore Ory Tasman (Orlando, Fla.).
Rogers was the lone MIT scorer in the second period, tallying his second goal of the game with four minutes remaining. Tasman and Everett notched their second goals in the third period and, by the end of that quarter, the Engineers still remained slightly ahead of Cal Lutheran with a score of 6-5.
During the fourth and final period, the Kingsmen scored six goals, however, taking the lead with only three minutes left on the clock. Junior Jack Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.) and senior Andrew Dorne (Irvine, Calif.) scored MIT's final two goals, the last one being scored with a minute left on the clock, but the game ended with a Cal Lutheran victory.
Rogers, Tasman and Everett were the high goal scorers for MIT, tallying two goals apiece.
MIT will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when it faces Iona College at 3:00 p.m. The next day, the Engineers will travel to Fordham University for a 10:00 a.m. game and then will head to St. Francis College (N.Y.) for a 4:00 p.m. game that same day.
