Cheney and Kruse Earn CWPA Weekly Honors
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Following an eventful weekend that saw MIT defeat Brown University for the first time in almost decade, two members of the MIT men's water polo earned weekly honors as announced by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Craig Cheney (Sherwood, Ore.) was named the Northern Division Player of the Week and freshman Nolan Kruse (Orcutt, Calif.) was tabbed as the Northern Division Rookie of the Week.
In MIT's 15-13 win over Brown on Saturday, Cheney led the Engineers with his seven goals, two steals, two rebounds, and one ejection drawn. Later that same day, he recorded one goal, one steal, one assist, and one field block in Tech's 14-6 victory over Connecticut College. He is currently second on the team with his 23 goals on the season.
Kruse tended the goal for the entire game against Brown, allowing 13 goals and totaling nine saves, one steal, and one assist in the game. He leads the MIT goalkeepers with 76 saves so far in his first collegiate season.
The Engineers will have their first weekend off since the start of the season a month ago, returning to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they face fellow Cambridge rival Harvard University at home at 7:30 p.m.
