Ivan Ivovic wraps up his first season at the helm of the water polo team, coming to MIT from Johns Hopkins University where he was the assistant water polo coach. In 2013, he guided the Engineers to a record of 13-17, a second place finish at the Division III Eastern Championships and an eighth place finish at the CWPA Championships.

Before arriving at Johns Hopkins, Ivovic was the full-time volunteer assistant coach of both the men’s and women’s water polo teams at the University of Southern California, where he worked under famed coach Jovan Vavic, who has led his programs to ten national championships in his 18-year career at the university. While there, Ivovic helped run up to six practices per day and traveled with the teams to tournaments and training camps.

Ivovic started his coaching career in 2007 as the head assistant coach at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., a position he held for five years. During this time, he was the founder and the head coach of the Purple Eagles water polo club team, a year-round program for high school and junior high school athletes.

Ivovic started playing water polo at the age of eight for the Montenegrin team Rivijera in Herceg Novi, and continued to compete for them until he was 20-years-old. From 2006-2009, he played for the Rockville Water Polo club team in Rockville, Md. During this time, he was also part of the University of Maryland club team that placed second at the Eastern Club Team Championship in 2008.

Lauren Presant enters her second season as an assistant coach for the MIT water polo program. The leading goal scorer in Brown University women’s water polo history, a 2010 Honorable Mention All-American and an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee that same year, Presant brings over 10 years of playing experience to the Engineers' program.

This past season, Presant competed in the 19th World Maccabi Games in Israel, where she helped the U.S. bring home the gold, scoring four goals in the championship game.

Prior to MIT, Presant spent time playing international professional water polo in New Zealand, the Netherlands, and France. One of the 2012 top 10 goal scorers in New Zealand, Presant helped lead the Maranui Mud Crabs to a second place finish in the NZ National League. Additionally, she helped coach the youth of the Maranui Water Polo Club and was involved in medical research at the University of Otago Wellington. In the Netherlands, Presant helped the team to a seventh place finish and was involved in HIV/AIDS Research at the University Medical Centre Utrecht, Netherlands. 

She began her water polo career in Poway California at Poway High School and played for the San Diego Shores Water Polo on teams that finished seventh in 2005 and second in 2006 at Junior Olympics. She began her coaching experience in 2008 with the youth of the Brown University Rhode Island Water Polo Club.

Presant graduated from Brown with a degree in human biology: human health and disease. She currently works for Cartera Commerce as a Marketing Associate.
