CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After dropping the first two games at Northerns, MIT bounced back on Sunday with a 13-4 win over Fordham University. With the victory, the Engineers finished seventh of the eight teams in the tournament. St. Francis College edged out Brown University in the championship game, 9-7.
Senior John Rogers scored three more times on Sunday, increasing his tournament total to 11. Senior Grady Snyder and Mark Liao tallied two goals a piece in their final MIT water polo contest. Freshmen Palmer Rosemond, Dallas Chase and Mike Smith Bronstein all chipped in one goal.
"Considering how many guys we lost from last year, for us to be in the position we were at, this tournament was really amazing," said head coach Felix Mercado. "It will be tough losing our three seniors, but I have a great feeling that this program is on course to be great."
In other tournament action on Sunday, Queens College defeated Connecticut College 11-8, and Harvard slipped by Iona 11-10 in overtime.
