SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Hemagiri Arumugam paced the MIT men's cross country team to victory in the annual Engineer's Cup competition on Saturday afternoon. Tech had five runners among the top 10 finishers, totaling 25 points to beat out RPI (39) and WPI (65). The win was MIT's 18th straight in the annual series among the three schools.
Arumugam was the first across the finish line, finishing the eight-kilometer course in 26:43.84, three seconds ahead of RPI's Chad Mitchell. Paul Welle followed 20 seconds behind in third place. Bill Phipps finished fifth with a time of 27:13.75. Ben Mattocks (27:24.72) earned seven points for the Cardinal and Grey while Stephen Serene rounded out the squad's top 10 finishers.
The Engineers will be back in action next weekend at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
