MIT Finishes Second at UMass-Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Paul Welle was the first of four MIT runners in the top 15, as the Cardinal and Gray finished second at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. Tech totaled 73 team points, just three behind first place, Keene State.

Welle placed fourth overall, with a time of 24:50 on the eight-kilometer course. Dan Harper was the next best Tech finisher, coming through the chute in 25:07 and in 13th place. Stephen Serene was two places behind Harper, navigating the course in 25:09. Roy Wedge earned 15 points with his time of 25:10. Matt Metlitz (25:42) rounded out the scoring for the Engineers with a 36th-place showing.

A pair of Keene State harriers took the top two spots in the meet, providing a cushion that MIT's depth was unable to overcome. Brandeis finished in a close third place with 79 points.

MIT will compete in the Purple Valley Classic next weekend, hosted by Williams College. The meet will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25.
