Tech Places Sixth at All-New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. – Facing some of the top competition in the region from across all Divisions, the nationally ranked No. 7 MIT men's cross country team finished sixth overall at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) championship Saturday at Franklin Park. All five Tech harriers placed among the top 75, as the Engineers had the second best showing of all Division III squads at the meet.

Daniel Harper (Naperville, Ill.) led the way for MIT, as the senior finished 22nd overall with a time of 25:22 on the eight-kilometer course. Sophomore Roy Wedge (Lawrence, Kan.) had a strong showing, placing 39th in 25:47. Stephen Serene (Washington, D.C.) was the third fastest finisher for the Cardinal and Gray, taking 48th place at 25:57. Allen Leung (Arcadia, Calif.) and Benjamin Mattocks (Sharon, Mass.) rounded at Tech's top five in 66th and 71st place, respectively.

MIT's total of 244 was just behind fifth place Northeastern University (240) and Middlebury College (221), the top Division III squad. Connecticut University took home the team title with 149 points.

The Engineers will get a preview of the NCAA Division III championship course next weekend, traveling to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for the Pre-National meet.
