CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Members of the MIT men's and women's cross country teams swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week awards, as announced by the league on Monday. Following solid showing by both nationally-ranked squads at the All-New England championship over the weekend, Daniel Harper (Naperville, Ill.) and Elaine McVay (San Ramon, Calif.), collected the conference's men's and women's honors.
Harper was the third-highest finisher among Division III harriers at the multi-divisional meet, placing 22nd overall with a time of 25:22. As a team, the MIT men came in sixth overall at the championship.
McVay was Tech's top performer in the women's varsity race, taking 21st overall in 18:27 over the five-kilometer course. McVay's time was the fourth fastest of all Division III competitors, as she helped Tech place eighth as a team.
This marks the second occasion this year that the Engineers have swept the conference accolades. Harper and Brooke Johnson (Shoreham, N.Y.) were named the men's and women's Runner of the Week, respectively, during the week of September 19.
