BOSTON, Mass. – For the third time in his career, MIT men's cross country senior Roy Wedge (Laurence, Kan.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week following his impressive performance this past weekend.
At the Purple Valley Invitational that was held at Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon, Wedge helped lead No. 5 MIT to a first place finish when he came in second place in the 8k with a time of 26:14.2. With their 41 points, the Cardinal and Gray finished ahead of No. 9 Williams College, who was second with 59 points, and No. 23 Middlebury College, who was third with 60.
The weekend before, the Engineers wrapped up the Southern Maine Invitational with a first place finish with 41 points, ahead of nationally ranked teams Bates College and Bowdoin College. Wedge was the first of the MIT runners to complete the five mile course, coming in third with a time of 25:20.11 and finishing just nine seconds out of first place.
MIT will have this weekend off, returning to the cross country trail the following Saturday, Oct. 12 at the NEICAAA Championships that will be held at Franklin Park.
