Derrick Named as the NEWMAC Men's Runner of the Week

Boston, Mass. (September 26) -- MIT men's cross country freshman Josh Derrick (Winnetka, Ill.) has been named as the NEWMAC Runner of the Week for his showing at the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Derrick earns his first weekly honor as he placed eighth out of 284 runners to help the No. 6 ranked Engineers to a third-place finish among 23 teams. In a race that featured nine nationally-ranked teams, Derrick crossed in a time of 25:43.5 over the 8K course. Starting out with a solid 5:13 first mile, he finished with an average of 5:11 per mile to lead the Engineers.

The Engineers are back in action on Saturday, October 8th as the team travels to Franklin Park for the NEICAAA Championships.
