Join MIT Women’s Basketball in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On Saturday, Feb. 18 the MIT women's basketball team will participate in the "Play 4Kay" initiative, a collaborative effort by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

The Engineers will host Clark University in their regular-season finale with tip-off occurring at 2:00 p.m. in Rockwell Cage. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and donations will be collected at the door and online at

Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was a past president, founding member and a galvanizing voice of the WBCA. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. With the creation of the Fund, Yow hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation's top doctors and medical experts to allow more and more cancer patients to have access to experimental drugs and clinical trials.
