Women’s Basketball Announces Class of 2016

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT women's basketball team will welcome three new members for the 2012-13 season. "When we recruit student-athletes for our program, we look for talented competitors who are high in character, leadership, and academic success," said head coach Sonia Raman. "In these three young women, we have found all of those traits. We are excited for Durva, Sabrina, and Maya to join our team."

Durva Bhandare (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township)
Guard...second team all-county...all-division team junior and senior seasons...Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) Sportsmanship Award...White Division champions...GMC finalist...averaged 13 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists per game...1,000-point scorer...two-year captain and four-time letterwinner...played for New Jersey Panthers...secretary of the National Honor Society...National Spanish Honor Society...Honors Math Analysis Award...High Academic Achievement Award...major is undecided.

Sabrina Drammis (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head Island)
Guard...2012 all-state, all-area, and all-region teams...all-region and all-area Player of the Year...earned all-region and all-area team selections as a junior...selected to the North-South all-star team...three-time region champions...averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and two assists per game...two-year captain and four-time letterwinner...won the high school state championship in tennis at No. 1 singles...National Honor Society...Spanish National Honor Society...Quill and Scroll...Mu Alpha Theta...senior class president...will be majoring in computer science.

Maya Ramachandran (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose)
Forward...Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) first team all-league...MVAL champions in 2011 and 2012...2012 NCS semifinalist...averaged 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks per game...captain and four-year letterwinner...played for Tri-Valley Elite basketball club...also was first team all-league for volleyball...valedictorian...NCS CIF Scholar Athlete...National Honor Society...National Merit Scholarship finalist...AAWA and MathesonGas Scholarship...AP Scholar...will be majoring in biological engineering.
