NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Following an impressive start to the women's basketball season, MIT freshman Maya Ramachandran (Fremont, Calif.) was voted the New England Women's Basketball Association/PrestoSports Rookie of the Week. Through four games, she has averaged 9.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 1.8 assists, and 1.8 steals for the Engineers.
Ramachandran nearly posted a triple-double in her intercollegiate debut as she racked up 19 rebounds, 14 points, eight blocks, and four steals in a 66-55 loss to Salem State University. The next day, she totaled 15 boards, 11 points, seven blocks, and five assists in a 74-51 win over Bates College while picking up Salem State Tip Off Tournament all-tournament team honors. Last Tuesday, Ramachandran compiled 18 rebounds, six points, four blocks, and two assists in a 48-46 loss to Endicott College before closing the week with six points, three rebounds, and one block in 21 minutes off the bench in a 61-43 win over Emerson College.
