Women's Basketball Collects NEWBA and D3hoops.com Accolades

Cambridge, Mass. (March 13) – The postseason honors continued for the MIT women's basketball team with the announcement of the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) All-Region Team and the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Team on Tuesday. Juniors Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) and Taylor V'Dovec (Blaine, Wash.) were both voted to the NEWBA All-Region Third Team while freshman Kylie Gallagher (Upton, Mass.) earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Holinski also represented the Engineers on the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Fourth Team for the second year in a row.

The 2016 NEWBA and D3hoops.com Northeast Rookie of the Year, Holinski finished the season as the NEWMAC leader in three-point field goal percentage (41.8), was second in made three pointers (56), and 12th in points per game (11.7). She became the program leader in career made three-point field goals (166) and ranks seventh all-time in points (1,020).

A first-time NEWBA honoree, V'Dovec ranked fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (47.4) and fifth in points per game (12.8) and rebounds per game (7.1). Gallagher, MIT's first All-Rookie Team selection, led all NEWMAC rookies in field goal percentage (50.4) and offensive rebounds (71) while finishing second in rebounds per game (6.3). Overall, she was third in the league in field goal percentage, fourth in offensive rebounds, seventh in blocks (25), 10th in rebounds per game, and 19th in points per game (10.0).
