WPI Defeats MIT, 56-36

WORCESTER, Mass. - The MIT women's basketball team fell to WPI, 56-36, in NEWMAC action on Saturday. With the loss, MIT drops to 4-17 overall and 0-11 in conference play.

Although both teams got off to a sluggish start, WPI posted a 14-6 lead halfway through the opening frame. MIT then went on a 14-2 run over the next 7:30, resulting in a 20-16 advantage following a steal and lay-up by Christa Margossian. WPI responded with five unanswered points, taking a 21-20 edge at halftime.

WPI scored the first hoop of the second stanza, but a trey from Joanna Natsios tied the game at 23. A basket by WPI's Lee Helberg was matched by Sharon Prange. Another Helberg hoop with 15:42 leftgave WPI the lead for good.

Karen Kinnamanfinished witheight points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Sharon Prange posted eight points as well while Christa Margossian added seven.
