CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's basketball team fell to NEWMAC foe Wellesley College, 54-36, on Tuesday night. Clara Yuan tallied 20 points as the Engineers dropped to 7-15 overall and 2-10 in conference play.

The early stages of the contest saw little scoring as both squads struggled from the floor. Tech recorded its largest advantage of the game when Yuan put MIT ahead, 6-4, at 14:01. A free throw and basket over the next three minutes helped the Blue (8-13, 5-7 NEWMAC) regain the lead. On the Engineers' ensuing possession, Yuan gave them their last advantage of the game (8-7). A three-pointer returned the lead to Wellesley and eventually resulted in a 25-12 margin at the intermission.

In the second half, Tech chipped away at the deficit as it narrowed it to nine (29-20) on a jumper by Kimberly Soo Hoo after 3:45 had elapsed. A trey on Wellesley's next possession returned its advantage to double-digits, which never dropped below 10 points for the rest of the game.

Darchelle Clark led MIT's rebounding efforts with a career-high nine boards. Cherelle Walls collected seven caroms while Soo Hoo finished with seven points.
