CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Following a 2-0 week and an average of 14 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals, and a .458 field goal percentage, Samia Mahjub was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. Currently in the midst of a four-game winning streak, the Engineers stand at 6-4 on the year.
In a 61-40 win over Caltech last Wednesday, Mahjub registered a game-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. She then posted a team-high 12 points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals in a 55-47 victory over Simmons on Friday.
MIT kicks off NEWMAC play on Wednesday, Jan. 9 when it hosts Smith College at 6:00 p.m. The Pioneers outlasted the Engineers, 43-41, in a double-overtime thriller last year to close the regular season.
