      <description>CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. &#x2013; The MIT women&#x2019;s lightweight crew team sent a pair of boats to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) national championship over the weekend, entering crews in the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 events. Both crews rowed in opening heats on Friday morning and came back for repechage rounds in the afternoon.</description>

The women&#x2019;s squad will field an eight and a four at the regatta while the men have a four entered.</description>

MIT&#x2019;s total of six honorees matches Harvard University for the most in the country among lightweight teams while Tech&#x2019;s 11 overall selections is the fifth-highest mark across all collegiate divisions.</description>

      <description>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. &#x2013; Six of the top 10 nationally ranked women&#x2019;s lightweight crews were on the Charles River on Saturday in a regatta co-hosted by No. 8 MIT and Harvard-Radcliffe. Tech also took competed against Harvard-Radcliffe on Sunday in the annual Muri Cup competition between the two squads. In the Varsity 8 on Saturday, MIT beat UMass in the Petite Final while the University of Wisconsin upset No. 1 ranked Stanford University in the Grand Final.</description>

The Varsity 4 earned a spot in the grand final during Saturday&#x2019;s qualifying heats and took advantage, finishing with a time of 7:53.02, good for third place.</description>

The race, which is for freshmen and novice rowers only, is along a three-mile course on the Connecticut River. The Engineers openweight squad took third in the team scoring, which is calculated based on the combined finishes of two boats, behind only Boston College and Radcliffe. The Cardinal and Gray beat out squads from UMass and Vermont.</description>

The Engineers began their race at 4:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, amid gloomy skies but calm water, for the start of their race. Despite an unexpected delay to the start of the event, the Tech crew stayed focused and executed its race plan well in the fall season&#x2019;s premier head race to take sixth overall in the lightweight women&#x2019;s eight event.</description>
