Women’s Lightweight Crew Preps for Start of Spring Slate

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT lightweight women's crew squad is in Southern California this week, preparing for Sunday's San Diego Classic, which marks the beginning of the spring portion of the schedule for the Cardinal and Gray.  The Engineers will row in seven events this spring, including a pair on their home course at the Charles River, and culminating with the Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints and Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) championship.

Tech will return to the east coast following the San Diego Classic, competing in the Knecht Cup on Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15 in Cherry Hill, N.J. MIT will then row in a pair of events in Cambridge the following weekend, taking on the University at Buffalo, Harvard-Radcliffe, the University of Massachusetts, Stanford University and the University of Wisconsin on Saturday, April 21. Early morning heats of the Varsity 8 race will begin at 6:54 a.m., with the grand final to go off at 12:06 p.m.

MIT and Radcliffe crew will square off again on Sunday, April 22 in the fourth installment of the Muri Cup, named for MIT alumna and Harvard coach, Linda Muri. The Novice 8 crews will race at 8:00 a.m., followed by the Varsity 8 at 8:40 a.m. The presentation of the Muri Cup will take place at the Pierce Boathouse at the conclusion of the Varsity 8 race.

The Engineers will also row in the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on May 11-12, the EAWRC Sprints on May 13 and the IRA championship on June 1-2, in Camden, N.J.
