Women’s Lightweight Crew Concludes Season at IRA Regatta

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. – The MIT women's lightweight crew team sent a pair of boats to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) national championship over the weekend, entering crews in the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 events. Both crews rowed in opening heats on Friday morning and came back for repechage rounds in the afternoon.

The Varsity 8 raced in the second of two heats, along with Bucknell University, Princeton University and Stanford University. The Engineers finished fourth in the heat with a time of 8:36.75. Stanford, who would eventually win the grand final, took first in the heat. Tech then returned along with Princeton and Georgetown University in the repechage race and took third.

The Varsity 4 was in a heat along with the University at Buffalo, Georgetown and the University of Wisconsin. The four was fourth in its heat, in 10:21.67. The Engineers rowed in a repechage round later on Friday with Buffalo, Georgetown, Princeton and Harvard-Radcliffe, taking fifth place. Wisconin captured the national title by winning Saturday's grand final.
