- The Lead: Early on Friday morning, the MIT women's lightweight crew team defeated Simmons College in a pair of races on the Charles River. The regatta was moved up to Friday morning due to the impending storm moving into New England over the weekend. The races were 2,000-meter races, taking place with a light tailwind and good water.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first varsity 8 race, the Engineers crossed in a time of 7:00.85 while Simmons came across in 7:35.68. In the second varsity 8 race, MIT finished in 7:37.27 to defeat the Simmons 2V boat by a 9.56-second margin. The Simmons third varsity 8 boat placed third as they crossed in a time of 8:14.
