Aaron Benson is in his second year as the Novice Lightweight Women's Coach, arriving at MIT from Ithaca College in New York. During his two years with the Bombers, Benson coached a novice women's eight to the grand final at the ECAC championship regatta, and helped Ithaca win back-to-back NCAA Division III national championships.
Originally from Seattle, Benson learned to row at the Pocock Rowing Center, and was a four-year letter winner at Willamette University in Oregon. His successes include medals at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships and Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, as well as a fourth-place finish in the 2003 Dad Vail regatta as stroke of the men's lightweight four.
Benson earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Willamette University in 2003, majoring in exercise science. He also received a Master of Science in exercise physiology from Ithaca College in 2005. He holds a Level II USRowing certification and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Additionally, Benson has published abstracts and presented at conferences of the American College of Sports Medicine and International Society of Biomechanics.
