Openweight Crews Place Second and Third in Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Openweight women's crew traveled to nearby Worcester to face conference rival Holy Cross, as well as Division III crews from Ithaca, Colby, and Connecticut College. Placing second behind Ithaca, the Tech varsity eight improved its record to 6-3, while the second varsity eight placed third and moved to 2-6 on the season so far.

Jumping ahead right off the start, the varsity eight led the field for the first two-thirds of the race, but the Engineers could not hold off a strong move in the third 500 from the Bombers. Ithaca won the race in 7:20.9, with MIT at 7:24.3, Holy Cross at 7:26.8, Colby at 7:54.8, and Connecticut College at 8:08.9.

The second varsity eight race proved less exciting, with the five crews separating early and only spreading further apart as they moved down the course. Ithaca won that event as well, with a time of 7:35.8; Holy Cross finished in 7:41.8, MIT in 7:54.7, Connecticut College in 8:09.6, and Colby in 8:26.2.

Next weekend Tech returns to Worcester for the Patriot League Championship, facing off against Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lehigh, and Navy.
