HANOVER, N.H. – The MIT openweight and lightweight crews traveled to Hanover, N.H. over the weekend to take part in the Green Monster Invitational hosted by Dartmouth College. The race, which is for freshmen and novice rowers only, is along a three-mile course on the Connecticut River. The Engineers openweight squad took third in the team scoring, which is calculated based on the combined finishes of two boats, behind only Boston College and Radcliffe. The Cardinal and Gray beat out squads from UMass and Vermont.
Both openweight eights had strong races, finishing in fifth and sixth place, respectively, out of 16 total entries. Tech's "A" boat finished with a time of 18:13.6 while the second eight was not far behind in 18:26.1.
The lightweight eight finished 13th overall with a time of 20:21.1, ahead of a pair of UMass boats and the "B" boat from Vermont. The lightweight team did not factor into the team standings, having just one entry in the event.
Dartmouth posted the top individual boat time of 16:57.1 but did not enter a second boat and, therefore, did not factor in the team standings.
Next weekend, MIT will conclude its fall season at home with the Foot of the Charles. The openweight team will have five boats entered in the regatta. Three Tech crews will compete in the Varsity 4+ on Saturday, November 12 at 9:45 a.m. MIT will enter two boats into the Novice 8+ event, which begins at 10:45 a.m.
