CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On a fall day with excellent weather for a regatta, the MIT women's openwieght crew team concluded its fall season with an appearance at the Foot of the Charles. In an event that features Varsity Four boats and both openweight and lightweight crews, the Engineers had their best finish in the Varsity Fours with its "A" boat taking 26th overall.
MIT had a pair of entries in the Varsity Four competition and the racing between the pair was very close, with the two boats finishing just 0.2 seconds apart. The Engineers' "A" crew completed the course with a time of 15:14.2, finishing just ahead of the "B" crew. The top finisher on the day was the Syracuse A boat, which finished with a strong time of 13:50.8.
MIT's Varsity Eight boat turned in a time of 16:08.1 to finish 13th in its event, while the Novice Eight crew rowed well in its event. That lineup finished with a time of 15:22.2 that placed it ahead of a crew from Northeastern for a ninth-place finish.
MIT will return to the water in the spring when it will race in the Beanpot on March 23 on the Charles River.
