MIT Openweight Crew Picked Third in Preseason Patriot League Poll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – MIT's women's openweight crew team was selected to finish third in the 2013 Patriot League standings in a preseason poll voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors and released today. The Engineers received 33 points in the poll, with Bucknell and Navy taking the top two spots.
Last season MIT had its best ever showing at the Patriot League Championship since joining the league as an associate member in 2010. The Engineers placed third overall with 25 points, just four shy of Navy's 29 points for second-place.
The Patriot League Championship is scored on a weighted system. Points are greatest for the Varsity Eight race with totals of 18-15-12-9-6-3 by position, while the Second Varsity Eight is scored at 12-10-8-6-4-2 and the finishers in the Varsity Four race get scored 6-5-4-3-2-1. The 2013 Championship will be held on May 17 on Lake Quinsigamound in Worcester, Massachusetts.
