Openweight Crew Takes On BC, BU and URI

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After seeing its schedule upended by the recent events in Boston, the MIT women's openweight crew team was back in action on the Charles River, taking on crews from Boston College, Boston University and Rhode Island. BU won both races in the eights, with URI taking the Varsity 4 event.

On a sunny morning with a light breeze, the MIT Varsity 4 team started things off on the 2,000-meter course. The Engineers finished fourth in the race, seeing the BC crew finish ahead of them by over 20 seconds. Boston University took the event with a time of 6:50.5.

In the second Varsity 8 race MIT also finished fourth, again by 22 seconds, with Boston University taking the event with a clocking of 6:50.5. The Varsity 8 race was the closest for MIT, but the result was the same for the Engineers as they finished a little over seven seconds behind Boston College for fourth.

MIT will be back on the water tomorrow when it takes part in the Beanpot on the Charles. Racing for the Engineers starts at 8:00 a.m. with the second Varsity 4 crew.
