CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On a bright and sunny morning in Boston, the MIT openweight crew team was back in action on the Charles River, taking on teams UMass and Bates. The top results for the day for the Engineers were pair of second-place finishes in eights competition.
First up was the Varsity 8 crews where MIT finished third on the 2,000-meter course with a time of 7:39.5, about nine second behind second-place Bates. The 2V8 crew had a close finish in their event, taking second by just a second over UMass with an effort of 7:53.6, with Bates taking first by six seconds over the Engineers.
Varsity 4 crews were up next where the MIT entry finished fourth in the five-team field behind two UMass teams and one from Harvard-Radcliffe. The Engineers crossed the line ahead of Bates by more than 20 seconds. In the 3V8 race MIT picked up their other second-place finish, crossing the line behind Bates but out-rowing the UMass crew by six seconds.
MIT will return to the waters again next week when the Engineers will face off against crews from Boston College and Northeastern on April 26 on the Charles.
