Meyer Named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Rowing
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After being selected to the All-Patriot League rowing team earlier this week, senior Erin Meyer (Austin, Texas) was named to another honor by the conference today when it announced her as the 2014 Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year for rowing. Meyer's selection also places her on the Academic All-Patriot League team, an honor that she will share with three other teammates; junior Andie Howell (Concord, Mass.), junior Becca Taylor (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and sophomore Veronica Toro (San Juan, Puerto Rico). It was the third time that Myer has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, with Howell, Taylor and Toro getting the award for the first time. MIT led the league with its four selections to the team.
A starter in the Varsity 8 boat, Meyer carries a 5.0 GPA (5.0 scale) in mechanical engineering. She is a three-time All-Patriot League rower and helped MIT to a third-place finish in the Varsity 8 competition at the conference championships last week. Last week Meyer was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-District award winner and is also a two-time College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athlete pick.
Howell and Taylor are also starters in the Varsity 8 boat along with Meyer. Howell has posted a 4.6 GPA as a biology major and was a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2013. Taylor carries a 4.9 GPA in chemistry with a minor in biology and was also on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2013 as well as being named a CRCA National Scholar Athlete. Toro was a member of the Engineer's second Varsity 8 boat this season and is a biological engineering major with a 4.9 GPA.
