Women's Fencing Battles at Beanpot

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On Wednesday night, MIT men's and women's fencing hosted Boston College, Brandeis University and Harvard University for the Third Annual Beanpot. The Engineers fought well and finished 1-2 on the evening, but they were no match for the Crimson of Harvard University, which captured its third-straight tournament crown.

Senior Stephanie Shin had a solid night, posting a 7-2 record including 3-0 records against the fencers from B.C. and Brandeis. Kirsten Hessler (4-5) and Sophie Monahan (3-6) rounded out the epee squad, which had the Cardinal and Grays best day among the three weapons.

Cordelia Link was the only other Engineer to post a winning record, as the senior finished 7-2 and scoring winning records against all three teams. Jenna Caldwell (4-5) and Lindley Graham (2-7) also competed at foil.

In sabre, freshman Annabeth Gellman (4-5) had the best day, while Molly Kozminsky (3-6) and Elena Tatarchenko (1-8) found themselves outmatched.

MIT (14-11) now looks forward to the postseason and the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Brown University on Sunday, March 14.
