MIT Finishes 11th in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row MIT placed 11th among all Division III schools in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) annual Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The Engineers’ Institute-best finish once again registered as the highest performance by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Shin Wins NFC’s Elliot Lilien Award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT sabre fencer Robin Shin has been named the recipient of the 2010-11 Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) Elliot Lilien Award. The Lilien Award is given to the “fencer who combines sportsmanship with excellent fencing skills.”

Shin Completes Amazing Season with Strong Showing at Nationals
Columbus, Ohio – Women’s saber fencer Robin Shin completed an incredible season this weekend when she finished 14th in the country at the 2011 NCAA National Fencing Championships at Ohio State University. Shin competed against the 24 top college saber fencers in the country, as was one of only three competitors to come from a Division 3 programs.

Shin Continues Incredible Year, Will Represent MIT at NCAA National Fencing Championships
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – For the second time in three years, sabre fencer Robin Shin will represent the MIT Fencing team at the NCAA National Championships. Shin qualified for the National Championships after placing 5th in the NCAA Regional finals held Sunday at Vassar College.

Fencing Takes Third Overall at New England Championships
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Battling injuries, missing teammates and youth, the MIT men’s and women’s fencing teams placed 3rd overall in the combined results at this weekend’s New England Intercollegiate Fencing Championships (NEIFC) at Mount Holyoke College. The men’s three weapons combined for a fourth place finish in the 12-team field, while the Tech women were third in the final rankings of 15 women’s schools.

Four Named to All-Conference Fencing Team, Sixteen Qualify for NCAA Regionals
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – As the head to head fencing season comes to a close, MIT sees sixteen fencers qualify for NCAA Regional competition, to be held March 13th at Vassar College. The Engineers also had four fencers named to the All-Conference All Star Team.

MIT Fencing Goes 2-4 at Brandeis Beanpot
WALTHAM, Mass. – The MIT men’s and women’s fencing teams travelled to Brandeis University last night for the annual mid-week Beanpot. The three-rounded competition featured the Engineers squaring off with teams from Harvard, Boston College and Brandeis. The women’s team scored the two victories of the tournament, edging out BC 14-13 and tipping Brandeis by a 15-12 score.

Fencing Teams Pick Up Four Victories at Eric Sollee Invite
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men’s and women’s fencing team each won two matches at Sunday’s Eric Sollee Invitational Fencing Tournament, hosted by the Engineers. The women’s team scored a 25-2 thrashing of Yeshiva and a 22-5 victory over Hunter College, while the men’s team took care of Yeshiva by the same score and Hunter by a 17-10 tally.

Women’s Fencing Wins Four Conference Bouts
Providence, R.I. – The Engineers women’s fencing team had a successful showing at this past weekend’s Northeast Fencing Conference meet hosted by Brown University. Tech came home with four victories in six bouts and several impressive individual showings.

Kozminsky Named NFC Fencer of the Month
Cambridge, Mass. – The Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) has named MIT Engineer Molly Kozminsky their Fencer of the Month. The announcement comes after the first NFC meet of the season, which was hosted by MIT the weekend of November 20th. Kozminsky, a sabre fencer, went a perfect 18-0 at the meet.

Women’s Fencing Notches Four Wins at Brandeis Invitational
WALTHAM, Mass. – The MIT women’s fencing team got strong performances from its sabre and epee teams to take four of their five matches at this weekend’s Brandeis Invitational NCAA Fencing meet. The Engineers scored victories over Brown, Cornell, Haverford, and Yale, dropping their only match to a very strong St. John’s University.

Women’s Fencing Wins Five Matches at Northeast Fencing Conference
Cambridge, Mass. – The MIT women’s fencing team opened its team competition season by winning five of its six contests as it hosted the first Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) meet of 2010. MIT scored wins over Sacred Heart (17-10), UNH (23-4), Boston University (19-8), Brandeis (15-12) and UMass (19-8). The only tilt it dropped was a 17-10 defeat at the hands of Wellesley College.

Women’s Fencing Goes 1-2 in Big One Sabre Competition
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Robin Shin won the women’s sabre competition over fellow Engineer Molly Kozminsky on Saturday at The Big One Fencing Tournament at Smith College. The event featured individual competition in a field of participants from nearly twenty schools, including several Division I and Division II programs.

MIT Announces 2010-11 Winter Sport Schedules
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — MIT announced today its team schedules for the 2010-11 winter season. Eleven teams will compete, beginning with the rifle squad, whose season kicks off on October 2. A number of teams, including the men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving and men’s and women’s track & field are coming off extremely successful seasons, which culminated in appearances at their respective NCAA Championships. The women’s basketball, men’s and women’s fencing, squash and men’s volleyball schedules were also released.

MIT Ranks Fourth Among All NCAA Institutions in 2010 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings
CHICAGO, Ill. – The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) recently announced its eighth annual Collegiate Power Rankings. Following another tremendous year, the Engineers were listed fourth overall in securing their highest ranking in the history of the report. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Collegiate Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels.
