Engineers Post 3-2 Record at NFC Competition

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's fencing team capped off Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) competition this past weekend at Boston College. The Engineers defeated Dartmouth College (25-2), Smith College (23-4), and Vassar College (15-12), but were narrowly edged out by Sacred Heart University and Boston College both by a 14-13 margin. Tech's conference record improved to 8-3 as its overall ledger moved to 10-8.

The foil team had the best outing for MIT as it amassed a 38-7 mark including 9-0 wins over Sacred Heart, Dartmouth, and Smith. Cordelia Link won 14 of her 15 bouts as Lindley Graham finished with a total of 13-2. Chun Li posted a record of 6-2 while Jenna Caldwell went 5-2.

Powered by an 8-1 victory over Dartmouth, the epee squad went on to notch a 27-18 record. Stephanie Shin led the way with a 10-5 performance as Zhenya Gu finished right behind her at 9-6. Joanna Tong turned in a 3-1 ledger while Kristin Kuhn compiled a mark of 5-6.

The sabre team registered a 24-21 total courtesy of a pair of 8-1 wins over Dartmouth and Smith. Laura Evans paced MIT with an 8-6 outing as Hareem Ahmad finished at 3-2. Elena Tatarchenko and Yuhsin Chen rounded out the contingent with marks of 7-7 and 6-6, respectively.
