Women's Fencing Notches 1-2 Mark at MIT/Brandeis Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Facing a very competitive field at the MIT/Brandeis University Invitational, MIT posted a 1-2 record this past weekend. The Engineers, whose record moved to 11-10 on the year, defeated Haverford College (18-9), but fell to the U.S. Air Force Academy (14-13) and NYU (16-11).

A 7-2 performance against Haverford helped power the epee team to a 16-11 ledger. Stephanie Shin led the way with a 6-3 record, followed by Zhenya Gu (3-2), Joanna Tong (5-4), and Nicole Koulisis (2-2).

The foil team went 14-13 during the day, including a pair of 6-3 victories over Air Force and Haverford. Cordelia Link anchored the squad with a 7-2 total as Chun Li posted a mark of 5-2. Lindley Graham went 2-7 while Jenna Caldwell fell in both of her bouts.

Elena Tatarchenko's record of 5-4 lifted the sabre team's overall total to 12-15 as its lone win was a 5-4 decision versus Haverford. Yuhsin Chen and Hareem Ahmad won 50 percent of their bouts as they finished with marks of 4-4 and 1-1, respectively. Laura Evans rounded out the contingent with a 2-6 outing.
