MIT Tested at Duke Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a tune-up for post-season action, the MIT women's fencing team met with several competitive squads at the Duke University Invitational this past weekend. The Engineers defeated Johns Hopkins University (22-5), but fell to the host Blue Devils (15-12), Brandeis University (16-11), Temple University (19-8), and the University of North Carolina (15-12).

The sabre squad had the best showing for MIT (15-9), as it finished with a 25-20 ledger. The team posted three wins, including a sweep over Johns Hopkins. Shauna Jin led the way with an 11-4 record while Lynn Wang went 9-6.

The foil team notched a pair of 6-3 victories, resulting in a mark of 21-24. Gemma Mendel anchored the Engineers effort with a 9-6 performance as Nancy Hua posted a ledger of 8-7.

With a record of 8-7, Mika Tomczak helped the epee team finish with a total of 19-26. Tech defeated its Johns Hopkins and Brandeis counterparts, 7-2 and 5-4, respectively.
