CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Competing in their first intercollegiate event, freshmen Robin Shin, Lauren Chilton, Molly Kozminsky, and Kirsten Hessler each finished in the top seven of their respective weapons at The Big One held this past weekend. Shin placed second in sabre, registering MIT's best outing since Caroline Purcell finished first in 1998 and 1999. Also participating in sabre action, Chilton claimed sixth place while Kozminsky ranked right behind her. Hessler led the Engineers' efforts in epee with a seventh-place finish. For the second time in her career, junior Cordelia Link led the field in foil action.
In foil, Jenna Caldwell captured 13th place as Julia Hopkins posted the next finish at 24th. Lindley Graham trailed three spots behind Hopkins while Shuchen Song and Ana Escalante placed 46th and 56th, respectively.
Following Hessler's seventh-place performance, Stephanie Shin claimed the 13th spot in the epee competition. Breanna Peterman finished 23rd while Sophie Monahan (29th) and Kristin Kuhn (36th) completed MIT's contingent.
