Women's Fencing Picks Up Two Wins at Brandeis Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's fencing team went 2-3 after facing strong competition at the Brandeis University Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers (7-3) defeated Vassar College (22-5) and Boston College (15-12), but fell to St. John's University (22-5), Cornell University (18-9), and Yale University (18-9).

The foil team put together the best record of the day as it finished at 24-21. Its best outing was an 8-1 decision against Vassar which helped lead MIT to its overpowering victory. Cordelia Link paced the Engineers with an 11-4 record while Nancy Hua posted an 8-7 mark. Lindley Graham (4-9) and Chun Li (1-1) rounded out Tech's efforts.

Both the sabre and epee squads posted records of 18-27. Yushin Chen led the sabre corps with an 8-7 ledger, followed by Hareem Ahmad (5-6), Laura Evans (5-10), and Heather Pressler (1-3). Rookie Stephanie Shin posted a team-best mark of 9-6 in epee action. Joanna Tong finished the day with a total of 6-9, which was bolstered by tallies of 3-10 and 0-2 from Zhenya Gu and Stephanie Couch.
