Dec. 5, 2005

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT women's fencing team went 2-2 in Sunday's competition at Brandeis University. The Engineers easily defeated Boston College (23-4) and Vassar College (23-4) before succumbing to national-power St. John's University (20-7) and regional rival Yale University (18-9). Tech's record now stands at 7-2 on the year.

The epee squad had the best showing for MIT as it finished with a 26-10 ledger and won in every match. Mika Tomczak led the way with a 9-1 mark as Lele Yu and Joanna Tong posted records of 8-4 and 8-3, respectively.

Both the sabre and foil teams totaled marks of 18-18. Shauna Jin paced the sabre corps with an 8-4 ledger while Drew Reese finished at 6-6. The foil squad swept Vassar, marking the only 9-0 victory in any weapon for the Engineers. Nancy Hua anchored the team with a 7-5 performance.
