Women's Fencing Posts 4-1 Record at Brandeis Invitational

Dec. 22, 2004

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - MIT improved to 9-1 on the year after competing at the Brandeis University Invitational on Dec. 5. The Engineers posted victories over Brown University (15-12), Boston College (18-9), Brandeis (19-8), and Vassar College (22-5), before falling to national-powerhouse St. John's University, 17-10.

A9-0 blanking of Brown's foil squad played a crucial role in Tech's slim victory over the Bears. Susannah Dorfman finished with a 14-1 record while Gemma Mendel was 11-4. Lele Yu paced the epee squad with an 8-6 showing while Joanna Tong posted a mark of 7-7.

Sabre proved to be the only victorious weapon for MIT in its match-up with St. John's, edging the Red Storm, 5-4. Lynn Wang, Shauna Jin, Drew Reese, and Kristina Holton combined for a squad record of 32-13, with every fencer finishing with a winning mark. Wang went 11-2 while Jin was 11-3. Reese notched a record of 7-5 as Holton totaled a 3-3 mark.
