BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Jane Coffrin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) received the first recognition of her career from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) as she was selected for Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Coffrin became the third player this season from the nationally-ranked No. 18 Engineers to receive this conference honor.
In a 2-0 week for MIT, she tallied three assists and contributed to a defense that allowed six shots on goal that yielded one marker. Coffrin picked up two assists in a 4-1 win over Wheaton College while the Engineers surrendered six shots on goal and seven shots overall. On Saturday in a 4-0 victory against Clark University, she earned an assist as the Cardinal and Gray gave up five penalty corners and two shots.
MIT (11-1, 4-0 NEWMAC) visits non-conference foe University of New England on Wednesday, Oct. 16 before resuming NEWMAC play at Smith College on Saturday, Oct. 19.
