CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fifth year in a row, the MIT field hockey team received multiple all-region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as seniors Maddy Wharton (Swarthmore, Pa.), Michelle Teplensky (Somers, N.Y.), and Erin Kenney (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) made the list. Wharton and Teplensky represented the Engineers on the New England East Region first team while Kenney was tabbed to the second team.
Wharton received her second-straight first team nod and third overall after anchoring a defense that contributed to six shutouts and a 1.66 goals against average. In addition, she was tied for second on the team in assists (seven) and ranked third in points (15) while scoring four goals. Teplensky, who was voted to the second team last year, finished fifth in the NEWMAC in goals (17) and points (39). A first-team selection as a junior, Kenney was placed on the second team following another solid campaign in the midfield where she posted one goal and four assists while helping MIT outshoot its opponents, 416-185.
