WORCESTER, Mass. - Three goals during the final eight minutes of the first half helped propel MIT to a 4-0 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC field hockey game on Saturday. Junior Molly McNamara (Auburn, Mass.) scored twice for the Engineers who raised their overall record to 9-1 while improving their conference ledger to 4-0.
Senior Caitlin Mackey (San Diego, Calif.) put MIT on the board with 7:04 left in the half. Just over two minutes later, McNamara gave the visitors some breathing room with back-to-back strikes. After connecting on a feed from sophomore Keeley Erhardt (Ann Arbor, Mich.), McNamara gave the Engineers a 3-0 lead exactly 32 seconds later by redirecting a pass from freshman Emily Penn (Elkridge, Md.). MIT capped the scoring with 6:35 left to play when sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Crofton, Md.) converted a feed from freshman Chiara Waingarten (Aventura, Fla.).
In net, junior Paige Kennedy (Eastchester, N.Y.) generated one save in the first half while classmate Evie Kyritsis (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) did not have to turn away a shot as the Cardinal and Gray recorded its fourth shutout of the season.
MIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when it hosts conference foe Smith College.
