MIT Places Six on NEWMAC Field Hockey Academic All-Conference Team

Boston, Mass. (November 2) – The MIT field hockey team racked up six Academic All-Conference Team selections as announced by the NEWMAC today. The list consists of 50 total student-athletes from the sport of field hockey.

Seniors Tate DeWeese (Towson, Md.) and Morgan O'Brien (Crofton, Md.) collected their third awards from the conference while juniors Amanda Lowery (Encinitas, Calif.) and Ellen Mulé (Alexandria, Va.) were repeat honorees. Sophomores Allie Shepard (Wexford, Pa.) and Katherine Stoll (Avon, Conn.) rounded out the Engineers as first-time qualifiers.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale of a 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2016 spring semester, must have achieved second year academic status at their institution and have been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

MIT returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. The No. 3 seeded Engineers will battle with No. 2 Smith College at Babson College. Action starts at 2:00 p.m.
