Westwood, Mass. (November 2) – The nationally-ranked No. 12 MIT field hockey team tied the program record with 10 Academic All-Conference Team selections as announced by the NEWMAC on Thursday. The list consists of 61 total student-athletes from the sport of field hockey.
Seniors Amanda Lowery (Encinitas, Calif.) and Ellen Mulé (Alexandria, Va.) collected their third awards from the conference while juniors Allie Shepard (Wexford, Pa.) and Katherine Stoll (Avon, Conn.) were repeat honorees. Seniors Anna Neuman (Abingdon, Md.) and Emily Penn (Columbia, Md.) along with sophomores Devon Goetz (Rockville, Md.), Taylor Grey (Horsham, Pa.), Rayna Higuchi (Solana Beach, Calif.), and Jacqueline Liao (Great Neck, N.Y.) rounded out the Engineers as first-time qualifiers.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or a 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 spring semester, must have achieved second year academic status at their institution and have been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
MIT returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. The No. 2 seeded Engineers will battle with No. 6 Wellesley College at Babson College at 2:00 p.m.
