CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Anna Ayuso scored two goals to lead MIT to a 3-1 victory over Simmons College on Thursday evening. The win lifted the Engineers' ledger to 2-3 on the year while the Sharks fell to 0-4.
The game, which was played in a steady rain, was scoreless entering the second half. Tech struck first as Hee Jay Kang tallied her team-leading fourth goal nearly nine minutes into the final period off a pass from the top of the circle by Ekavali Mishra. Simmons responded 3:27 later as Elizabeth Hennigan took a shot from the top of the circle that was re-directed by Katie Bonney.
MIT regained the lead for good as Ayuso connected on a centering pass from Cristina Stefanescu for the game winner at the 48:49 mark. Ayuso added an insurance goal that was set up by Sharon Prange with 15 minutes left to play.
In net, Alexa Herman made four saves while her counterpart from Simmons collected six stops.
